Tufts Cracks Down on Professors with Connections to Harvard, Citing Rising Tensions between the Universities

by Zac Colah

At a press briefing on Thursday, president Sunil Kumar announced that Tufts University will ban the hiring of professors with connections to Harvard, citing rising tensions between the universities. Kumar also announced new vetting processes for existing professors.

This move comes in the wake of a Harvard University accusation against Tufts Political Science Professor David Art for eavesdropping on members of the Harvard Board of Overseers. The alleged incident took place in a bathroom during a political science convention at the neutral MIT. According to the accusation, Art “crouched on the toilet seat to make it look like no one was there,” presumably to gather intelligence on behalf of Tufts University.

More specifically, Kumar announced these changes as outlined in Resolution 23-06 titled “Blocking All The Threats of Lateral Espionage”. BATTLE was passed by The Board of Trustees, the ultimate governing authority at Tufts, last Wednesday.

The Zamboni uncovered policy shifts curiously missing from Kumar’s Thursday briefing. BATTLE authorized Kumar to personally question professors about their “relationship with former Tufts President Tony Monaco” who was dismissed in May after his allegiance to Harvard was discovered.

The Zamboni will reluctantly continue to provide independent coverage on the evolving conflict between Tufts and Havard until one of them agrees to pay us.
